There is gurgling and rustling noises everywhere - a hike through the water landscape of the Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia is an extraordinary experience. Sometimes it goes over wooden footbridges under which the many small tributaries of the lakes pass, sometimes there are small and large waterfalls that the paths lead directly past.
The national park was founded in 1949 and is located in the karst region of central Croatia. Around a million visitors are counted every year.
