Northern lights appear primarily green, but also red, blue and violet. We explain where the different colors come from in our technical article on the northern lights. In Ekkerøy, in the municipality of Vadsø, Norway at 70 degrees latitude, we were lucky and were able to admire the entire spectrum of colors of the Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis last night.

The cod drying racks, the famous Ekkerøy bird rock and the Varangerfjord formed wonderful backdrops for the structures and colors of this phenomenon and if the spectacle hadn't suddenly ended after an hour, we would definitely have been photographing all night long.

The IRIX 11 mm lens connected to the Nikon Z9 via an adapter did a great job thanks to its excellent optical performance. What is particularly useful with this lens is the integrated locking option for the set distance, which holds even if you touch the lens with clammy fingers in the dark - whether accidentally or intentionally.
