Our trip to Venice in 1988 resulted in so many photo opportunities that the number of films we took with us was barely enough. The quality of the scanned slides leaves a lot to be desired, so that this photo presentation has more of a value than a contemporary testimony and a vintage collection.
But it may be of interest to one or the other to compare our documented impressions of Venice from 1988 with today's developments in this lagoon city. We spent the Easter days in the city in 1988 and were surprised at how beautiful and quiet the city became as soon as the day tourists returned to the mainland in the afternoon.
Our trips to Burano and Murano were very nice and our visit to a armenian monastery on one of the offshore islands was very impressive.
A respectful trip to San Michele the cemetery island was also worthwhile. It lies between Venice and Murano and we saw the graves of famous people. We found the grave of Ezra Pound, the American poet, who is considered an outstanding representative of literary modernism and who died on November 1, 1972 in Venice, impressive.
